| MedCentral Hospice
Hospice is a plan of care for patients with life-limiting illnesses that combine modern techniques with loving concern for patients and families. An alternative to conventional medical care, hospice is an incredible "care" model that offers quality of life and protects dignity.
At MedCentral Hospice, we seek neither to hasten nor postpone death. The hospice philosophy changes the focus of care from curing to one of caring and comfort. We recognize that patients need more than just management of their physical symptoms. We understand the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of patients and their families. MedCentral professionals from many disciplines combine to provide family centered care.
Managed by specially trained RNs, our hospice team collaborates with physicians and the medical director to offer care to patients in their homes. Hospitalization may be required for respite care or symptom management; however 95 percent of our hospice patients are able to remain at home.
Patients, their families and the physician all participate in the decision to bring in hospice. Patients must have a life expectancy of six months or less and live within the MedCentral service area. A primary caregiver in the home must be willing to take responsibility for a patient's comfort and safety, or an alternative plan must be developed.
