What to do if you have been sexually assaulted

  • Remember: it is not your fault.
  • Report the incident to your local law enforcement.
  • Go immediately to a MedCentral emergency department.

If the assault occurred within three days do not:

  • shower
  • urinate
  • eat
  • drink
  • smoke
  • douche
  • have a bowel movement
  • change clothes

Ultimately, the decision to prosecute a person for sexual assault is yours as an adult. Remember that prosecuting a perpetrator is the only way we can stop that person from striking again. Prosecuting sexual assault sends a message that the behavior will not be tolerated.
