Support Groups and Education
Asthma classes: A series of two classes meets at Mansfield Hospital. Class one is for more information about asthma, and class two covers asthma triggers Both classes are free and are held periodically, but registration is required. Call 419-526-8455.
Bereavement: "Concerned Friends," a support group for parents who have lost a child, meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Mansfield Hospital. Call Rev. Faith Proietti at 419-526-8056.
Blood pressure screening:
Health & Fitness Center - First Wednesday of each month 9- 11 a.m. and 5- 7 p.m.
Mansfield Hospital - Third Wednesday of each month 9 a.m. -noon.
Shelby Hospital - Second Friday of each month 9-11 a.m.
Blood sugar screenings, held in conjunction with blood pressure screenings:
Mansfield Hospital - Third Wednesday of February, May, August and November 9 a.m.-noon.
Shelby Hospital - Second Friday of January, April, July and October 9-11 a.m.
Breastfeeding: See childbirth and breastfeeding class times for new and expecting parents.
Cancer support group: Meets the last Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Mansfield Hospital. Call Rev. Faith Proietti at 419-526-8056.
Cardiac support group: Mended Hearts meets the last Thursday of the month (except for December and July) at 7 p.m. at the MedCentral Health & Fitness Center. Call Cardiac Educator Kay Truax, R.N., M.S. at 419-526-8238.
Childbirth: See childbirth and breastfeeding class times for new and expecting parents.
Cholesterol screenings: Held quarterly at the Health & Fitness Center for the cost of $18, and a 12-hour fast is recommended for optimal results.
Diabetes, adult support group: Meets the last Tuesday of every other month at 6:45 p.m. at Mansfield Hospital. Meetings are scheduled for January, March, May, July, September and November. Call Cynthia S. Welch, R.N., B.S.N., diabetic educator, at 419-526-8541.
Diabetes, juvenile support group: Meets the third Monday of January, March, May, September and November at 7 p.m. in Mansfield Hospital. Call Donna Dillinger, R.N., B.S.N., diabetic educator, at 419-526-8923.

Grief social group: "Hungry Hearts" meets the last Tuesday of the month at noon at Golden Corral, 575 Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. Call Rev. Chris Mason 419-520-2392.

Mental illness: The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill support group meets the third Monday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richland County Mental Health Board, 87 E. First St., Mansfield. Call Mary Kay Pierce at 419-522-6264.

Steel Magnolia Support group for women with breast cancer meets the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Radiation Therapy Building conference room. Suicide support group for those who have lost someone to suicide meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Mansfield Hospital chapel. Call the Rev. Faith Proietti at 419-526-8056.
